I’ve recently finished my degree at Birmingham City University, Institute of Art and Design (BIAD). I graduated from my Textile Design degree with a pleasing 2:1. During my three year course I specialised in ‘Printed Textiles.’ I feel confident working with several printing techniques from screen printing to digital printing using Photoshop and other techniques such as foiling, flocking, heat transfers, dying fabrics, puff binding and general awareness in and around a working print studio. During my final major project I worked within the ceramics studio which taught me ceramic techniques such as slip dipping, casting, glazing, firing and a popular transfer technique known as lazertran. I also feel very confident using a sandblaster, this allowed me to experiment and create exciting and interesting surfaces on several materials such as ceramics, glass and fabric.
Throughout my three years at university I gained knowledge of Photoshop and the basics of illustrator. I have confidence with myself and my work, which I think is really important for a designer. I handle my time well, work hard and I’m not afraid to experiment and try something new. Currently I’m working as a self employed textile/ceramic designer maker. I have high standards for my work and I’m not afraid of having goals because I will work to get them. I regularly take part in local craft stalls, fairs and charity fundraising events. I have a real passion for what I do and find it overwhelming when people appreciate it too. I enjoy rummaging high and low at car boots and charity shops then incorporating my finds into my work. I love to sew, knit, shop, draw and be creative.
